Aranmanai (English: Palace) is a Tamil horror comedy movie directed by Sundar C, released in 2014. The movie stars Sundar C, Vinay Rai, Santhanam, Hansika Motwani, Andrea Jeremiah, Raai Laxmi, and Kovai Sarala in the lead roles. This movie is the first part of the Aranmanai film series.
The story of Aranmanai revolves around a haunted palace where a newlywed couple decides to stay for a few days. Soon, they start experiencing spooky incidents which they initially dismiss as unnatural phenomena. However, they later realise that the palace has a dark history, and something has been unleashed upon them.
The movie received positive reviews from the critics and became a box office success. The movie's music was composed by Bharadwaj, with the lyrics being written by Vairamuthu, Parthi Bhaskar, and Pa. Vijay. Aranmanai was later dubbed and released in Telugu as Chandrakala and the film was remade in Kannada as Kalpana 2.
